Archery birthday card

Hi Everyone! Today I’m going to be working a very long day, but it’s also one of our placement student’s birthday, so I’m sceduling this post to go live after we have given her her card (hopefully – don’t let me down technology!!)

Her family live in Wales, so she learned Welsh and she competes in archery for her University team, so I wanted to combine these two things to make a truely personal birthday card for her from all of us.

Firstly I wanted to have an archery target on the front of the card, but I didn’t want all the circles to sit one on top of the other, I wanted them flush, so I die cut circles from coloured card using my Spellbinders dies and then had to try to line up the smaller circle on the middle of the circle to give a ring… (I think I did remarkably well – no wonky rings!). I also used Spelbinders arrow dies to make the arrow, but I thought it was very big and overpowered the target, so I cut off the point so it looked like the arrow is buried in the target… I coloured the fletchings with a Spectrum Noir pen to make them blue and tie in with the target colour scheme.

To set the scene I used Xcut dies to create forest/countryside background, and to add a little interest I used my Clarity stencil brushes to add browns and greens to the layers. I started with a 12x12inch piece of card that I trimmed to 12x7inches then I scored at 3.5 inches from each edge to give a 5×7 panel in the middle. I used my scoring board to score every 1/4 inch and then folded them into a concertina. I glued all my die cut scene panels into the concertina. At the back I glued a blue panel as the sky to peek through all the layers and I glued a white panel over this to hide all the ‘workings’ of the card and for everyone to write messages onto.

The stitched banner is my go-to Creative Expressions dies and the sentiment is the Tattered Lace ‘Welsh Sentiments’ dies.

I hope she likes this card! Thank you so much for visiting my blog, come back soon to see what I create next!

I have a lot of Welsh friends and wanted to make Christmas cards using the Welsh sentiment dies I have from Tattered Lace. Unfortunately (as per usual) this card was WAY more intensive to create that I had anticipated and I’ve only been able to create one as opposed to several…

I die cut the ‘Holly Leaves Pine Branches‘ dies by Leane Creatief from green card and the berries from red card (I think I ended up needing 7 of each size of the leaves/branches to make the full wreath, which properly broke the TODO in!). I used a circle die to line up all the die cuts in a circular shape (I wouldn’t get it right by eye and would end up with an oval!!) and adhered them on to a white card base with HI-Tack glue, only attaching the bases or spines so there was still lots of dimention and they all stuck up in a more organic way. I inked the edges of the mat with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.

The sentiment was cut from red glitter card, which is just brilliant – it really sparkles, but with no mess!!

I adhered the mat to a kraft card base; bish, bash, bosh, done!

Are you feeling Christmassy yet?

Friday will be my mother’s birthday and she isn’t very ‘computer savvy’ so I feel safe posting this before her birthday.

I stamped the IndigoBlu ‘Sunflower’ stamp on Neenah card with VersaFine ‘Vintage Sepia’ ink. I coloured it in with Spectrum Noir GB1, GB3, Ct1, CT4, TN8, EB4, EB6, JG1 and JG5.

Using my Perfect layers tool to cut layers from More Mustard and Chocolate Chip card for the stamped panel. I cut a 7 inch square of white card and placed the layers on this. I attached the layers onto the white card, then attached this white layer on the 8×8 inch white card blank with 2mm foam pads.

Using the Heartfelt Creations ‘Classic Sunflower’ stamp and Memento ‘Tuxedo Black’ ink on Neenah card three times. Then I used the ‘Classic Sunflower’ die to cut them all out. I coloured them with Spectrum Noir pens and shaped them using my Deluxe Flower Shaping Kit. I layered the different sized petals on top of each other and attached them with Hi-Tack glue. For the flower centres I used Nuvo Crystal Drops in Copper Penny and added Bronze Rocailles and left them to dry overnight. I attached one sunflower to the card, along with a leaf cut from green card using X-cut die.

My Mum grew up in Shropshire and heard a lot of Welsh on Market Day and she also supports the Welsh Rugby team, so she knows a little Welsh. As a result I wanted to get the Tattered Lace ‘Welsh Sentiments’ dies and use them on this card. I cut ‘Penblwydd Hapus’ from Chocolate Chip card and attached it to the stamped panel and on the More Mustard panel.

I made a triple bow from Hempatique brown hemp cord using the Bow Maker and attached it to the card with HI-Tack glue and attached a wooden button on top.

I wanted to present my Mum’s present in a brown paper bag in a ‘rustic’ look, but wanted to add sunflowers and twine etc. so it would match the card.
