Happy Chinese New Year

Next week it will be Chinese New Year, the year of the monkey. Outside China the next largest celebration of Chinese New Year is in London – so if you ever get the chance go to China town in London to enjoy the festivities.

I’ve made a Chinese New Year card for my step mother using Waltzingmouse Stamps. I started with a A6 black card base. I cut a red mat and a black layer to go on the card front.

On the black layer I stamped the lanterns from the ‘Asian Gardens Additons‘ set in VersaMark ink. I heat embossed them with ‘Golden Red Blaze’ Cosmic Shimmer embossing powder. I then stamped the tops and bottoms of the lanterns in VersaMark (and you can tell the tassels on the lantern on the left didn’t end up where I had wanted them to be!) and embossed them in ‘Enchanted Gold’ embossing powder by Ranger. Then I used my Emboss Writer pen by Zig to draw a string through the lantern tops so the lanterns were hanging from something.

I embossed the sentiment on some red card with the Ranger Enchanted Gold and then cut them up to individual pieces and stuck them on the black layer with Nuvo Glue Pen.

I stuck the black layer on top of the red layer with roll-on tape. I tried to stick the red layer on to the black card base, but it didn’t stick straight first time, I tried to stick it down again properly, but the corner of the red layer had torn a bit, so I had to use wet glue to force it to stay down! That corner looks rather tatty, but other than that, I think the card was ok.

I hope you like this card, and that it might have inspired you. Enjoy any Chinese New Years celebrations you may be having!
