My late Step Brother always used to say I was ‘very lastminute.com’ & he had a point – I would always start a project and suddenly find that it should have been completed yesterday… But my Stampin’ UP! demonstrator Nikki Raine inspired me earlier this year by starting (and finishing) her cards for special occasions early this year, so I’m taking a leaf out of her book! My Mum’s birthday is in August, but you can never be too prepared!!!

My Mum is a keen gardener, so anything with flowers on would be on-target, but she LOVES Sunflowers, so when Lili of the Valley released the ‘Sunflowers‘ stamp in their Folk & Flowers suite I HAD to get it for a card for my Mum.

I used to subscribe to Cardmaking and Papercraft, and the backing paper was a free gift with the magazine from ‘April Rose Illustartions’ with lots of garden themed papers & some toppers too. I trimmed the patterened paper & attached in to a cream base card with roll-on glue.

I don’t have oval dies for my die cutting machine yet, but I do have a Tonic Studios Shape-Mate Ovals set so I cut a few ovals before I got it right, then stamped the Lili of the Valley stamp in Memento ink & cut around it with the Shape-Mate. I coloured in the image with Promarkers and tried to mirror some of the colours on the backing paper, then attached it with roll-on glue to the card.

I cut the smaller oval from some cream textured card to match the cream base card. Using the Cheery Lynn ‘Happy‘ and ‘Birthday‘ word dies I cut the sentiment from blue card to match the background. I used Quicky glue to attache the sentiment to the cream oval.

D’oh!!! I’d forgotten to attach the yellow ribbon behind the patterned paper before I attached it to the base card!! Oops… So I put some double sided tape on the ribbon and attached it over the bottom of the oval image on the front of the card. I attached the sentiment oval over the top of the ribbon with foam sticky pads and tied a bow of ribbon then attached that to the front of the card with Glossy Accents.
