Strawberry Birthday card

Today is my Grandmother’s 93rd birthday!

I wanted to make her a special card to celebrate her birthday, but not too fussy because it had to go in the post!

Because the Wimbledon Championships have been played recently strawberries are very much in season right now, so I thought this lovely stamp that I bought a while back from Lili of the Valley called ‘Strawberries‘ would be quite seasonal for her birthday. The image on the Lili of the Valley website gave me inspiration and I decided to make her a stepper card, because I bought some pre-made blank cards a few months back that I haven’t used yet.

I have a subsription to Cardmaking and Papercraft Magazine and one of the free gifts was a paper stack that had some gingham paper in it. I cut three panels of red gingham paper and attached them to the base stepper card with roll-on glue.

Next I stamped ‘Strawberries’ in VersaFine Onyx black ink onto white card and then cut it to a suitable size for the largest panel of the stepper card. I coloured the image with my Promarkers. I stamped one of the butterflies from the Kaisercraft set on white card and fussy cut it. Then I coloured it with Promarker and scored along the body with my bone folder to get the wings to stand up and attached it to the taller back panel of the steps with double sided tape.

Last year I bought some A4 red card for all the patriotic bits and pieces, so I used that for the embellishments. I punched the bottom border with my Martha Stewart Double Scallop Edger Punch and attached it to the bottom of the card with double sided sticky tape. I cut out the scalloped circle with my Spellbinders die in my Big Shot, then attached the circular sentiment with roll-on (AKA Snail) glue. I lined up the sentiment to where I wanted it to work out where to put the double sided sticky tape and then attached it firmly to the front step, where it stood above the ‘step’.
